Pick two options and compare them side by side: what each one is, what it does and how it’s fitted. It covers the three common CV boot materials (rubber, silicone and thermoplastic) and an aramid (Kevlar-grade) cover. CV Boot Guardian covers are aramid covers that fit over your existing CV boot. They are not a replacement boot.
How the tool works
Choose a different material in each dropdown, then press “Compare Materials”. You’ll get a three-row table: what it is, what it does and how it’s fitted. These are plain descriptions, not ratings or test results, so the tool won’t tell you how long a boot will last.
The descriptions above are factual summaries, not ratings or test results. Sources are listed below the tool.
What the four materials in the tool are
- Rubber, silicone and thermoplastic are materials used to make CV boots themselves, the flexible bellows that keep grease in and dirt out.
- Kevlar is a brand name for aramid fibre. In a CV Boot Guardian cover it is a woven outer layer that goes over your existing boot, so rocks, sticks, grit and abrasion hit the cover instead of the boot.

How to use the result
- If your boot is healthy and you want protection from rocks, sticks and grit, a slip-on aramid cover goes over the boot you already have. A cover is not a fix for a boot that has already split: replace a torn boot first.
- If your boot keeps tearing on a lifted 4WD, changing material usually isn’t the first thing to check. Look at the CV angle first: how to stop CV boots tearing on 4WD trails.

Frequently asked questions
What does the CV boot material comparison tool compare?
It compares rubber, silicone and thermoplastic CV boots with an aramid (Kevlar-grade) cover: what each one is, what it does and how it’s fitted. You pick two different options and see them side by side.
Where do the descriptions come from?
From the sources listed on this page and our own product description. They describe each option and don’t rate them, and none of them are lab test results.
Does a Kevlar cover replace my CV boot?
No. A CV Boot Guardian cover is an aramid cover that fits over your existing boot. It isn’t a fix for a boot that has already split, so replace a torn boot first.
Will changing boot material stop my CV boot tearing on a lifted 4WD?
Not on its own. Repeat tears on a lifted 4WD often point to CV angle, so check that first. See our guide to stopping CV boots tearing on 4WD trails.
